Hello!,

Sorry for not posting in Spanish.. English and Dutch are the limit to my language abilities.

I've also got a my2001 Saab 9-3 TiD S Coupe and a my1992 Saab 9000 CD 2.3 Turbo Griffin.

The 9-3 is used by me most of the time, for both fun and business. I've modified it to produce around 160hp and 340NM of torque, this was through a Sports Exhaust, Performance Filter and Abbott Racing Motorsport Diesel Upgrade for the (new generation 125hp VVT Turbo) 2.2 TiD. It's also fitted with the Abbott Motorsport Viggen Rescue kit (Bushings, Steering Rack Clamp etc) and Eibach Springs and Koni Adjustable Dampers with Saab ALU28 17'' Wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.

You can read the review of the car at http://www.turboteameurope.com under DRIVEN or see the development of the car and costs under the same site under TECH, PROJECTS. You can also see the car being driven at Goodwood racing track, and at The Nurburgring under ENJOYMENT, DRIVING, TRACKDAYS.

A diesel can be fun!

My 9000 2.3 Turbo is lovely and quick, with the only modification done so far is the fitting of 16'' 3 spoke Aero wheels and Dunlop SP9000 tyres along with the Trent Saab Stage 2 Braking kit (Brembo Group N Grey Iron Discs) and Ferodo DS2500 Racing pads).. I'm thinking of increasing power to the car from 200hp up.. and am looking at a Speedparts Stage 2 upgrade (Exhaust, filter, DI/APC and Jetronic upgrade) with perhaps an Abbott Racing chassis upgrade (Springs, Koni Dampers etc..)
You can see the 9000 at http://www.turboteameurope.com under Gallery, 9000, Mark Anderson.

I've owned other Saabs in the past too.. I had a NA NG900 2.3 SE and a Classic 900 Turbo 2 door. Out of them all the diesel, feels the fastest.. but after upgrades I think the 9000 will be the quickest Saab i've owned :)

Keep on Saabing!

p.s. As far as how long the engine on the TiD will last?

Two things.. I use Shell Ultra Helix Diesel fully synthetic motor oil (i have done from new). And the car is main-dealer serviced on every scheduled service.

I had the upgrade fitted at 16,000 Kilometers once I had correctly run the engine in, and have now completed over 75,000 Kilometers with the car. I've not had one single problem with the engine.

The upgrade is from one the most well respected Saab tuners in the world (Abbott Racing).

I drive my cars fast (Autobahns) and enjoy driving fast (Track days). My fuel consumption on the Saab Information Display is always around 7.2Litres/100KM.

If you want to chip your 9-3 Diesel ONLY use good Saab tuners. Hirsch for the 115hp and Abbott for the 125hp and you will be fine.

I'm very active with my 9-3 and also with my 9000 2.3T... but have no problems with the idea that THEY CAN BE IMPROVED. The 9-3 was launched as a very poor handling car that NEEDS upgrading to be anywhere near as good as cars from Audi and BMW.

Alvaroruiz  thinks that 17” for a 9-3 is too much. That’s the reason why HUNTER is smiling.

How many kilometres with the upgrading diesel kit?. Any problems?. :?:

This is my car. And me driving it! :)

17'' Wheels (p.s. My wheels are Saab wheels - ALU28 to be exact :) -- I have 16'' Aeros on my 9000 2.3 T.. does that count? ;) )

17'' wheels with 225 tyres are very useful when you fix the 9-3's terrible suspension for good corning ;)

I've completed 59,000 KM with the Diesel Upgrade. I've had no problems whatsoever.

(I've been following the conversation in babelfish ;)

Mark it is "forbidden" to insert pictures in original format. The right thing is to insert a zip. Ok?. Don’t worry you didn’t know.

No está mal del todo Hunter. No dejas de sorprenderme.

Hi Mark, welcome to our Club.

First of all, you should not believe anything from Hunter, he is always joking  . I´m not against 17" alloy wheels for a car like YOURS, but for a standard 115 hp TiD  . I've always said that if you want to improve a car's engine, you should also improve the rest of the car, that's to say, brakes, suspension, wheels, etc. In Spain there's a lot of people who only put a cheap ECU upgrade in the car and doesn't modify anything else, with the result of a very dangerous vehicle (a vehicle with chassis, brakes, suspension... designed for 100 hp but with 150 hp or more  ). And there´s also another group of people who waste their money putting enormous alloy wheels (17 or even 18") in a standard car because they think they're going to improve it, when the only thing they get is an uncomfortable behaviour and a "nervous" steering wheel :!:  . "If you modify a car, modify it well, but please don't do such stupid things" I'm always saying it to this kind of guys, but they must be deaf

Recently I put here a post asking for improving the brakes and suspension of my 9000, and Hunter said I should equip it with 17" wheels and 225 tires  . "OK" I answered, "but I think the first thing I have to do is install a sport kit and powerful brakes". This was the beginning of the argue

When I told diesel aren't for a sport way of driving I wasn't talking about motorways, but about "spin" roads in which you have to use the gearbox very very frequently, and everyone knows this is not very good for a diesel. In you drive fast in motorways or godd roads, there's no problem for a standard diesel (needless to say yours isn't precisely standard   )

Enjoy your cars!!! :D

And Mark, what about fuel consumption and oil burning with this upgrading?. It is too much higher now ?. Maybe the same?. :?

I am frightened thinking about Vila inside your car and driving it. Uffffff too much for my imagination.
